पंजाब में प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी बुधवार को सड़क मार्ग से जाते समय एक फ्लाईओवर पर 15 से 20 मिनट के लिए उस वक्त फंस गए जब कुछ प्रदर्शनकारियों ने रास्ते को अवरुद्ध कर दिया।इसके बाद पीएम मोदी वहां से वापस लौट गए।भटिंडा हवाई अड्डे के अधिकारियों ने एएनआई को बताया कि भटिंडा हवाई अड्डे पर लौटने पर पीएम मोदी ने वहां के अधिकारियों से कहा, "अपने सीएम को धन्यवाद कहना, कि में भटिंडा हवाई अड्डे तक जिंदा लौट पाया।"

केन्द्रीय गृह मंत्रालय ने इस घटना को प्रधानमंत्री की सुरक्षा में गंभीर चूक करार दिया है। गृह मंत्रालय ने एक बयान में कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की पंजाब यात्रा के दौरान गंभीर सुरक्षा खामी के बाद उनके काफिले ने लौटने का फैसला किया।

बयान में यह भी कहा गया कि मंत्रालय ने पंजाब सरकार से इस चूक के लिए जवाबदेही तय करने और कड़ी कार्रवाई करने के लिए कहा है। जिस वक्त यह घटना हुई, उस वक्त प्रधानमंत्री बठिंडा से हुसैनीवाला में राष्ट्रीय शहीद स्मारक की ओर जा रहे थे। पीएम मोदी दो साल के अंतराल के बाद आज पंजाब पहुंचे थे। विवादास्पद कृषि कानूनों को निरस्त किए जाने के बाद यह राज्य में उनका पहला दौरा था। इन कानूनों को लेकर किसानों ने करीब 1 साल तक दिल्ली की सीमाओं पर विरोध प्रदर्शन किया था। प्रधानमंत्री फिरोजपुर में चंडीगढ़ स्थित स्नातकोत्तर चिकित्सा शिक्षा एवं अनुसंधान संस्थान (पीजीआईएमईआर) के उपग्रह केंद्र और दिल्ली-अमृतसर-कटरा एक्सप्रेसवे सहित 42,750 करोड़ रुपए से अधिक की लागत की विकास परियोजनाओं का शिलान्यास करने वाले थे। इनमें अमृतसर-ऊना खंड को चार लेन में परिवर्तित करना, मुकेरियां-तलवाड़ा रेल लाइन का आमान परिवर्तन और कपूरथला एवं होशियारपुर में दो नए मेडिकल कॉलेज की स्थापना संबंधी परियोजनाएं भी शामिल थी। कार्यक्रम के बाद प्रधानमंत्री एक रैली को भी संबोधित करने वाले थे।

Bhatinda airport officials told ANI that on his return to Bathinda airport, PM Modi told the officials there, "Thank you to your CM, that I was able to return alive till Bathinda airport."

The Union Home Ministry has termed the incident as a serious lapse in the security of the Prime Minister. The Home Ministry said in a statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy decided to return after a serious security breach during his visit to Punjab. The statement also said that the ministry has asked the Punjab government to fix accountability for this lapse and take strict action. The Prime Minister was on his way from Bathinda to the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala when the incident took place. PM Modi reached Punjab today after a gap of two years. This was his first visit to the state after the controversial agriculture laws were repealed. The farmers had protested on the borders of Delhi for almost a year regarding these laws. The Prime Minister was to lay the foundation stone of development projects worth over Rs 42,750 crore, including the satellite center of the Chandigarh-based Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Ferozepur and the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. These included the four-laning of Amritsar-Una section, gauge conversion of Mukerian-Talwara railway line and two new medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur. After the program, the Prime Minister was also going to address a rally.
